The question “Do genital warts get worse before they get better” has been asked by so many misinformed individuals. There are a lot of people infected with genital warts who hesitate to take treatment for fear that their conditions will only worsen if they make any attempts on the treatment. This is a very wrong and risky behavior for this could mean the condition would not only worsen but would make the situation more critical for the infected and those around them.

Genital warts are one of the most common STDs around and it can easily transfer from one person to the next even if precautions like condoms are used. Any contact on the infected area can already be cause for the transmission. The worst case is that the virus can incubate in the body for up to a year before any symptoms show up. Even worse is an asymptomatic person can unwittingly infect another through skin and sexual contact.

There are a lot of ways to get rid of the genital warts but they should not cause any worsening of the condition. So going back to the question of “do genital warts get worse before they get better,” the answer is “NO.” Once the treatment is done, there may be some which will pop out, but they should immediately get contained through the course of the treatment. The only way that the symptoms would worsen is if the immune system of that individual gets compromised or is lowered due to another cause.

Once the treatment is methodically done or performed, there should be a significant reduction of the symptoms, not a worsening. It is important to stick to the treatment even if the warts have disappeared so as to prevent from any recurrences. Should the individual stop the treatment because the warts have disappeared, they could still risk the chance of recurrence and could infect others.
